Is Risperidone effective in treating mania?

Hi everyone. I am 24 years old and i am from Glasgow,Scotland. I went to see my pdoc yesterday and i presented with a high and elated mood.The pdoc said that this was a manic episode.She put me on 2mg of Risperidone for the mania ans said she may increase it to 4mg depending on how i do. I see her again in a months time.Is Risperidone effective in treating mania?Thanks
